How It Works

Flexography is a relief printing method that uses flexible photopolymer plates wrapped around rotating cylinders:

  • An embossed rubber or photopolymer plate carries the image area in relief above the non-image backing.
  • A ceramic anilox roller engraved with millions of micro-cells meters a uniform, microscopically thin layer of fast-drying ink onto the raised plate areas.
  • The plate rolls directly onto paper, film, or corrugated board with minimal impression pressure (“kiss” impression).

How It Works

Offset printing operates on the principle that oil and water do not mix:

  • Ink is transferred (“offset”) from the plate onto a smooth rubber blanket roller, which then applies the ink onto sheet-fed paperboard.
